Indexing through Querying in Unstructured Peer-to-Peer Overlay Networks

چکیده
The efficiency of a Peer-to-Peer file sharing overlay is measured in terms of the scalability and versatility of its object lookup strategy. In these networks peers carry out distributed query relaying to discover the service providers. Existing lookup mechanisms like flooding and random walks in unstructured P2P overlays create huge communication overhead and increased response time. In this work we propose efficient lookup in unstructured peer-topeer overlay networks using indexing through querying, distributing indices through queries. Our simulation studies show that by our approach more than 97% of the queries are answered in one hop and the rest in few hops thus reducing the network load. Our approach is efficient in worst case scenarios where contents are distributed over thousands of peers and the overlay network condition is highly dynamic.

An efficient message passing technique using route path information in unstructured peer to peer network
Peer-to-Peer overlay systems offer a substrate for the construction of large scale and distributed applications. The Peer-to-Peer technique is differentiated in to two major forms, Structured P2P and Unstructured P2P. In structured peer-to-peer networks, connections in the overlay are fixed. They typically use distributed hash table-based (DHT) indexing, such as in the Chord system. Unstructure...
متن کاملAnonymity and Censorship Resistance in Unstructured Overlay Networks
This paper presents Clouds, a peer-to-peer protocol that guarantees both anonymity and censorship resistance in semantic overlay networks. The design of such a protocol needs to meet a number of challenging goals: enabling the exchange of encrypted messages without assuming previously shared secrets, avoiding centralised infrastructures, like trusted servers or gateways, and guaranteeing effici...
متن کاملDynamic Querying in Structured Peer-to-Peer Networks
Dynamic Querying (DQ) is a technique adopted in unstructured Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networks to minimize the number of peers that is necessary to visit to reach the desired number of results. In this paper we introduce the use of the DQ technique in structured P2P networks. In particular, we present a P2P search algorithm, named DQ-DHT (Dynamic Querying over a Distributed Hash Table), to perform DQ...
متن کاملHash-Based Overlay Partitioning in Unstructured Peer-to-Peer Systems
Unstructured peer-to-peer (P2P) networks suffer from the increased volume of traffic produced by flooding. Methods such as random walks or dynamic querying managed to limit the traffic at the cost of reduced network coverage. In this paper, we propose a partitioning method of the unstructured overlay network into a relative small number of distinct subnetworks. The partitioning is driven by the...
متن کاملOn the Structure of Unstructured Overlay Networks∗
Unstructured overlay networks are a key component of many peer-to-peer systems. These overlays exhibit a set of interesting properties that derive from their inherent randomness. In this fast abstract we briefly discuss the key aspects that need to be considered when attempting to bias the structure of unstructured networks, such that it becomes possible to improve the efficiency of application...
